Eternal Connections

Paola Fernanda Guzmán Figueroa’s exhibition Eternal Connections explores the need to understand her existence in an environment where her family is not present and where it is difficult to locate familiar roots. The artist finds meaning in personal objects, such as her own hair, and a childhood aquarium. Guzmán Figueroa considers that hair has a place in memorial, ritual and magic, and it has an ambiguous relationship to the rest of the human body. Hair is alive, it has a past history, and it can surely unveil surprising bonds and ties of one’s own survival. Thus, the photographs from her performance “Time Travel” where she transports an aquarium containing hair, exalt the properties of this element. Ultimately, Guzmán Figueroa creates links to her past and establishes new ways to express emotions of longing and nostalgia.
