Seminar: Questions about ethically and ecologically sustainable exhibition practices, Tuesday 10 October from 9:30 am to 3 pm.
What impact and what contributions can visual art exhibitions make as our living environment changes? What are the moral and ethical issues involved in organising and curating exhibitions? What ecological solutions should be taken into account in current exhibition practices? Explore and discuss the themes at an event organised by the Finnish Association of Photographic Artists and the regional photography centres of Finland on Tuesday 10 October 2023 from 9.30 am to 3 pm at Culture House Valve, Oulu.
The Questions about ethically and ecologically sustainable exhibition practices seminar starts with morning coffee and short introductions of Finnish photography centres and the national association, followed by a talk by photographer/artist Kaisa Syrjänen from Utopias Lahti about ecologically sustainable exhibition practices. To shed some light on the Nordic scene, we are joined by freelance curator Kjersti Solbakken, who will curate the LIAF – Lofoten International Art Festival in 2024. Before lunch, artistic director Yvonne Billimore from Bioart Society reflects on her work on knowledge ecologies, pluralism and polyphonic programmes.
After lunch, the themes will be explored in a group discussion moderated by photographer, museum educator Kastehelmi Korpijaakko. Other participants include Yvonne Billimore (Bioart Society), university lecturer and photographer Michael Jacobs (University of Lapland), Kjersti Solbakken (LIAF 2024), Kaisa Syrjänen (Utopias Lahti) and executive director/curator Darja Zaitsev (Photo North – Nordic Photographic Centre). The discussion will be held in English.
