In Marko Karo’s exhibition Mirage, we observe a world which is crumbling from our wasteful lifestyles and actions. Combining documentary and sci-fi, the exhibition’s dramaturgy is based on the ruins of cities in the Atacama desert. These forgotten places tell us more about our past than the first glance may tell.

Marko Karo is a Helsinki-based visual artist whose lens-based work engages with histories and ecologies of various kinds. In recent years, Karo has developed his practice towards a speculative visual archaeology seeking to shed light on marginal histories and possible and alternative futures.
Marko Karo’s works have been exhibited in many exhibitions in Finland and abroad. In Helsinki, his work has been last seen in his solo exhibition Sea Change at Photographic Gallery Hippolyte in the fall of 2021. His eponymous work won the first prize in the Blue Sea Film Festival short film competition (Finland) in 2022.
