As part of the More-than-Planet Deep Workshop week in Pyhäjärvi, the Northern Photography Centre and the Ruotanen Village Association invite local residents to an open discussion on Thursday 1.6. at 6 pm at the Mäkikylä Community Centre.
The Northern Photography Centre’s project explores possible futures amid an energy transition in a changing world. How could the Pyhäsalmi mine be transformed from a consumer to a producer of energy or even food, or into a testing site for high technologies such as space exploration?
All those interested in the mine and its cultural history are invited to share their experiences and insights under the theme What does the world look like? Among the speakers are More-than-Planet project director Antti Tenetz and EPV Energy’s power plant manager Aki Hakulinen.
A group of artists and researchers will gather in the village of Ruotanen in Pyhäjärvi from 29 May to 2 June to explore the mine and the cultural history it has created. Later, in autumn 2023, the project will bring artist Felicia Honkasalo to Pyhäjärvi to explore the mining environment in more depth and to work with the local residents.
